The University of Regina’s Board of Governors has approved its 2025-26 budget – warning that the student population will see tuition and fee increases going forward. In an announcement Wednesday, the university said most tuition and fees will increase by four per cent for the 2025-26 academic year. Reasons for the increase included inflation, changes to immigration regulations, static domestic enrollment rates and geopolitical uncertainty. “Post-secondary institutions across Canada are experiencing budgetary challenges and the University of Regina is no exception,” the university said in the announcement. In addition to the increases, the university said two per cent budget reductions for its various academic and administrative units were implemented. Some workforce adjustments will be required going forward. However, they are being kept to a minimum by not filling vacant positions. “The University does not take tuition increases lightly and has made every effort to limit them to the level necessary to help cover the rising costs associated with providing quality education, while continuing to make post-secondary education affordable and accessible,” the university added.
