RCMP in the Weyburn area are investigating an incident over the weekend that saw a driver pulled over by someone impersonating a police officer. Weyburn RCMP received word of the incident at around 10:40 p.m. on Sept. 13. According to police, the victim was driving on a grid road near the community of Midale when a vehicle came up behind them with flashing red and blue lights. Both vehicles slowed down before the vehicle with the blue and red lights fled the area. The suspect vehicle is described as a granite-grey heavy-duty truck with a flat deck and heavy-duty rack. It’s believed to be a 2000’s model Chevrolet. The police-style lights were mounted on its windshield near the truck’s rearview mirror. An investigation into the incident is ongoing, according to the police service. Weyburn RCMP are asking anyone who believes they are being followed by an imitation police vehicle to contact RCMP immediately. Additionally, an investigation is still ongoing into the fatal shooting of a woman on Highway 39 near Weyburn on Sept. 12. RCMP say the investigators on that case are aware of the police impersonation incident. However, investigators say there are no known links to the suspicious death at this time.
