Regina police have arrested and charged two people after they allegedly evaded officers during an attempted traffic stop on Thursday. At about 9 p.m., officers patrolling around 5th Avenue and Garnet Street noticed a speeding vehicle and attempted to follow it from a distance, according to the Regina Police Service (RPS). The driver ran a red light at 7th Avenue and Lewvan Drive before heading west and did not stop when officers attempted a traffic stop near Regina Avenue. Officers in another car saw the suspect vehicle pulling into the parking lot of a business on Harvard Way, RPS said. The driver, a 40-year-old man, was taken into custody without further incident, but the passenger, a 40-year-old woman, fled the scene. Following a brief struggle, she was taken into custody. Following the arrest, officers found methamphetamine, items associated with drug trafficking, and bear spray. The man is charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, flight from a peace officer, and possession of a weapon. The woman is charged with resisting arrest and identity fraud. Both appeared in Regina Provincial Court on Friday.
