A teen is facing charges after an investigation into a reported threat at a school on Sturgeon Lake First Nation. Prince Albert RCMP say they received a report around 8:30 a.m. on May 11 that the school had been made aware of a potential threat. Officers immediately responded, while the school enacted its hold and secure protocol while police conducted a search of the building. RCMP say no indication of an imminent threat was found, but officers maintained an increased presence in the community. The school remained in hold and secure throughout May 11 and cancelled classes the following day. Mounties continued to investigate the source of the threat and kept school officials and community leadership updated. They say the initial report originated from outside Canada, after someone observed threatening content directed at the school on social media. As a result of the investigation, officers arrested a teen boy at a home on Sturgeon Lake First Nation on May 12. Police say a BB gun, knife and axe were seized at the home. Investigators say the accused is a student at the school. The boy, who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was charged with three counts of possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and one count of uttering threats. Police say he has appeared in Prince Albert Provincial Court and was remanded in custody until his next court appearance scheduled for May 20. Sturgeon Lake First Nation is located about 30 kilometres northwest of Prince Albert.
